The goal of this project is to determine the impact of fiber properties on vortex yarn quality. A special emphasis will be on fiber length, length distribution parameters, and tensile properties as limited results obtained so far show that there are all important for vortex yarn. It is also likely that fiber fineness has an impact, i.e., friction among fibers. This will allow us to determine the most important fiber properties needed to produce a good quality vortex yarn and to give recommendations to cotton breeders as to which fiber properties to concentrate their efforts on.
