Prior research by authors has shown that thermal treating of main cotton stalk can elicit a desiccation response in cotton.  The treatment however has the disadvantage of taking a long dwell time when conducted with flames, and an even longer dwell time with hot-air.  This report examines the potential use of exothermic chemicals to achieve the same response while allowing for a rapid application that would be more suitable for field applications.
