The preemergent herbicide Brake® F2, a combination of the PDS-inhibitor fluridone and PPO-inhibitor fomesafen, was introduced in 2013 under Section 18 authorization in South Carolina to control glyphosate resistant Palmer amaranth. Research and small-scale commercial use indicated excellent Palmer amaranth control and crop safety. Adoption increased in 2014 as a result of Section 18 authorizations in North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, and Tennessee. Grower experiences and research results will be summarized, and two new fluridone based preemergent herbicides for use in cotton, Brake F16 and Brake FX, will be discussed.
