Symptoms and Yield Loss from 2,4-D Exposure: A Case Study

New formulations of 2,4-D claim significant improvement in reducing risk to non-target crops, e.g., cotton. However, damage was observed on field plots established in a quarter-section cotton field adjacent to and down-wind of an 80-acre wheat field that was later treated with a 2,4-D acid formulation in early July. Following a significant rain in mid-July, characteristic auxin herbicide damage was observed on the cotton directly downwind of the wheat stubble field. Plant response and yield loss estimates were made comparing affected versus unaffected areas. The results of the comparison will be presented.
