In 2012, two monster cotton variety trials were planted in the Texas Gulf Coast region.  The objective of these trials is to assist Gulf Coast cotton producers in the selection of varieties for the upcoming season.  Each year, these two locations contain 40-50 varieties, hence the name monster variety trial (MVT).  The two MVT were located in Nueces and Matagorda counties.  Commercial seed companies select the varieties to be entered each year.  At the end of the season, statistical analyses are conducted on lint yield, gin turnout, fiber quality parameters (micronaire, length, strength, and uniformity), loan value, and lint value per acre are summarized and distributed to the seed companies, consultants, and producers.
