An Illumina transcriptome to the tobacco thrips was constructed. Individual reads were assembled and functional assignments made by comparisons to sequence information in GenBank. Further functional assignments were made using GO analysis and validated additionally by e-values, percentage identity, multiple alignments and the study of functional motifs. These studies are used to develop an RNAi approach for the control of thrips.
