Abstract
Saflufenacil and flumioxazin are PPO herbicides applied for PRE burndown in conservation tillage cotton. Both have cotton plant back restrictions due to potential injury. Systemic insecticides are often applied at cotton planting in furrow. Potential cotton injury concerns due to interactions of herbicides and insecticides were evaluated in 2010 at Plains and Tifton GA in a factorial arrangement of 7 herbicide treatments by 3 insecticides. The 2-way interactions between insecticide and herbicide were not significant for stand, height, and yield. Cotton injury was evident for the 14 DBP flumioxazin and saflufenacil treatments at cotton emergence. Flumioxazin injury was observable up to 30 days after planting and with final stand differences. Saflufenacil did not reduce stand compared to the nontreated control. Cotton growth trends remained constant up to 50 days after planting as compared to timing of application (42, 28, and 14). Saflufenacil applied 42 and 28 days before planting exhibited little to no injury. Insecticides did not cause any cotton stand or height concerns. These data indicate that there were no insecticide by saflufenacil issues with stand, growth (height measures), or yield of cotton.
