Stethorus Punctillum as a treatment against Spider Mites
In order to increase the efficience of the cotton, it is very essential to fight against spider
mites. Currently pesticides are broadly used to fight against cotton insects. These chemicals not
only fights the insects, but also negatively effects to the quality of the cotton. It also
destroys the biological circle of that region. Because of its costliness and its negative effects
pesticides are usually used after an appropriate level of infesting, usually around 50% and up.
As Scott Stewart, Associate Professor of Entomology and Plant Pathology of the University of
Tenessee mentioned in his article "Cotton Insects - Spider Mites": "Spider mites can be difficult
and expensive to control... The current treatment threshold is when 50 percent of plants are
infested." Based on my research, there is another biological option, which is via usage of
Stethorus Punctillum. My research has proved that this biological option not only is eco-friendly
and with no-chemical usage, but also is cost effective, which will help to treat cotton
immediately, not waiting for an appropriate level of infesting; increases the amount of high
quality cotton; and helps increase biological circle of that particular region.
