Creontiades signatus: A Plant Bug Pest of Cotton in South Texas

Randy J. Coleman, USDA, ARS, Beneficial Insects Research Unit, 2413 E. Bus. Hwy 83, Weslaco, TX 78596

Feeding by a plant bug in the genus Creontiades can result in damage and abscission of squares and small bolls. In recent years, the incidence of this plant bug has increased and it is considered an annual pest in the Lower Rio Grande Valley (LRGV) and Coastal Bend regions of Texas. Alternate reproductive host plants have been identified and data will be presented to examine the temporal and spatial aspects of host plant populations that are important for colonization and build-up of populations of Creontiades during the pre- and post-cotton production season.
