Blizzard (fluthiacet-methyl) is a new harvest aid belonging to the N-phenyl-phthalimides. Its mode of action is the inhibition of protoporphyrinogen-oxidase enzyme, inducing the accumulation of protoporphyrins leading to irreversible cell membrane damage, and loss of cell function. Activity is rapid on cotton foliage with symptoms typically visible within 24 hours following application. Field efficacy studies conducted in 2004-2005 throughout the Mid-South, Southeast and Texas cotton producing regions will be presented.
