Developing Fiber Variants to service the Domestic and International Yarn Markets

Len Furlough, BL Consulting, 1672 Ambrose Rd, Creswell, NC 27928

Purpose: To enable the domestic market to produce more competitive fiber and textile products.

Most of the knitted goods and the majority of the yarns and fabrics made in the Far East use the universally accepted and customer preferred ring spun yarns.

The capital cost and man hours per lb/yarn to manufacture ring yarns are cost prohibitive in high labor costs regions but a new spinning technology can produce “ring –like qualities, hand and abrasive resistance .“ The project man hours savings is 40-50% with 25-35% energy savings and a footprint to manufacture of 50% vs. a conventional ring spun mill.

Murata Vortex Spinning MVS_ Technology which with the proper raw material can preserve the technical competitiveness of the US domestic market. This technology has been shown to equal or exceed the fabric performance of ring yarn fabrics at competitive yarn manufacturing costs.
