Preliminary Study of the Behavior of Alternative Round Module Wrap Materials

A new round module wrap (RMW) product for cotton modules has been introduced by Tama.  TamaWrap Blue Value is intended as a more cost effective option to the standard yellow or pink TamaWrap Premium RMW.  The manufacturer has instructed producers to reduce the diameter or the round module in order to minimize damage to the Blue Value RMW during handling.  A survey has been conducted of modules to determine the diameters of modules being produced and the amount of “squat” that the Blue Value modules are undergoing versus Premium modules.  Additionally, an economical analysis has been undertaken to assess the differences in wrap use and module hauling incurred by producers when reducing the diameter of the round modules.  The incidence of different colors of plastic observed in classing samples is also discussed.
