Information on nutrient removal rate by cotton seed and lint will be useful for improving the existing cotton fertility recommendations.

A series of cotton P or K fertilizer rate studies were conducted on representative Arkansas soils. phosphorus fertilizer rates ranged from 0-160 lb P2O5 acre applied at 40 lb/acre increments. Potassium fertilizer rates were 0-200 lb K2O/acre applied at 50 lb K2O/acre.  At harvest boll sample were collected from 0, 80, and 160 lb P2O5 per acre treatments and ginned. Cotton seeds were delinted with concentrated acid, rinsed in deionized water and ground to fineness.  Cotton seed and fiber were analyzed for nutrients. The data will be used to quantify nutrient removal rates of cotton at various P fertilizer application rate.  A similar approach was taken with the K fertility experiments.
