he cost of ginning cotton is an important concern for producers and ginners. Data from the 2019 survey provides information about key variable costs as a component of the overall cost of ginning cotton. These data also identify historical trends of gin operation and help to document the incorporation of new technology to maintain or reduce ginning cost. The survey was conducted for the 2019 cotton crop, which produced 19.4 million running bales (USDA-NASS, 2020). The crop was gathered from 11.6 million harvested acres with an average yield of 910 lb per acre. In 2019, there were 531 operating gins, averaging 36,552 bales per gin.
