Round modules are becoming the preferred method of seed cotton storage and transport. A number of strategies have been employed to move modules from the field to the gin yard and on to the module feeder. Different methods of staging modules in the field are used. Modules may be transported using conventional module trucks or flatbed trailers, which commonly carry six or eight rounds. Modules may also be handled at the gin yard in groups with a module truck, or singly with a loader and appropriate attachment. The efficiency of different handling systems needs to be quantified for use in investment decisions by cotton producers and ginners. Machine operational data and module tag numbers were recorded to quantify system efficiency.
