A new thrips control system is being developed for cotton based on a non-chemical, mechanical mode of action. Laboratory experiments suggests the approach is highly active against tobacco thrips. Field small plot studies were conducted to compare thrips control at the first true leaf stage of cotton between a control and treatments with the mechanical insecticide, Celite 610; Orthene alone; and Orthene and Celite mixed. Result showed the mechanical insecticide was effective as a stand alone and when mixed with Orthene, could be used to reduce the amount of Orthene needed for control.
