New cotton varieties are higher yielding and faster fruiting than older varieties. The majority of Alabama’s potassium rate recommendations were based off of research conducted on older cotton varieties. Potassium deficiency is evident in some central Alabama cotton fields every year. In order to prevent K being a limiting yield factor, research needs to be conducted on potassium rates for new cotton varieties. Potassium also effects fiber quality. With current cotton prices, quality is an important consideration for Producers today. This trial was conducted at five research stations in Central and South Alabama. The two cotton varieties were DP 1646 and PHY 444. These are common varieties grown in the area. Treatments were based off of Auburn University soil test results.
