A unique technique for cotton color measurement

Abstract:

The color of cotton fiber is an important property of cotton as it has got direct influence on the processing and performance of yarn quality. Normally cotton has bright, white color but, there are different factors which are involved in the color deterioration of cotton fiber. These factors affect the color of cotton fiber significantly.      The focus of our study is to measure the color of cotton fiber with a new method by using different light sources. This method will be unique in this sence that the relationship between the visual assessment of cotton and instrumental color measurement of cotton is quite high. Cotton samples from USA, Pakistan, Turkey and India are used in this research. The phenomenon which is used currently for visual assessment is also taken into consideration with some major changes in it. The comparative study is performed to see the effect of trash content in the cotton sample on the color measurement both with visual and instrumental color measurement. In some of the industries like automobiles and others the matter of precise color measurement is taken very seriously but, in case of cotton the parameters which are used still now are almost 50 years old and are not globally recognized. Our focus of the study will be to represent the color parameters in the different color space which gives better human color perception as compared to the current parameters.
