Perspectives on boll sampling. Sampling of seedcotton is an essential step to almost all tests associated with cotton variety and strain testing. Sampling may be done be grab samples taking from the picked plot or by hand-picking bolls prior to mechanical harvest. Advantages and disadvantages of both methods will be compared. Also, perspectives on boll sampling with respect to what bolls taken, how many bolls, and how many replications and locations to sample will be discussed.
