Sulfur management on low organic matter, low CEC, and sandy soils in the upper Southeast coastal plain can be difficult in rainfed environments. Plants utilize sulfur as sulfate, a form similar to nitrate thus must be managed in similar manner. Research trials to ascertain optimal sulfur application rates in cotton have been on going in Virginia and North Carolina from 2012-2015. Data on timing and rate of sulfur application is needed to maximize upland cotton in this growing region.
