Statement of Justification

The Texas Alliance for Water Conservation (TAWC) is an ongoing demonstration project in the Southern High Plains of Texas located in Hale and Floyd Counties. The TAWC works with over 30 producers to test irrigation technologies with an overall goal to conserve water. As water resources become more scarce throughout the region, farmers will need to find alternative management methods to achieve profitability.

Objective

The objective of this project is to determine if 2:2 skip row cotton can obtain equal profitability per acre and per acre inch of water applied compared to continuous row planting.

Materials and methods

Budget data from the TAWC will be used to compare management techniques, water use, and profitability for two producer sites with 2:2 skip row cotton and two producer sites with continuous cotton row planting for 2013 and 2014.
