This paper will compare the costs and returns of growing cotton in Kansas to the costs and returns of growing cotton in Mississippi. Kansas is certainly a fringe state for cotton production but typically has at least three counties producing cotton. If cotton can be produced competitively to corn and soybeans in-state and to cotton in other states, then cotton acreage in states like Kansas is likely to continue.
