Fiber strength is an important property in assessing the true value of cotton fiber quality.  Stronger fibers should maintain their length properties throughout processing resulting in more predictable performance in textile products.  The research reported investigates the relationship between fiber maturity and fiber strength.  Two varieties of cotton were crossed with an immature mutant variety resulting in samples with a wide range of micronaire, fineness and maturity.  These samples were then subjected to a battery of fiber strength tests, including both bundle and single fiber testing.
