Lygus lineolaris is a major pest of cotton in the Mississippi Delta agricultural region but is not as economically important in the Hills agricultural region. The reason for this may be due to higher levels of insecticide resistance in the Delta region. This paper will discuss comparisons of LC50 data for Permethrin, Acephate, and Imidacloprid for populations of L lineolaris in Mississippi, specifically making comparisons between populations from the Delta region vs. the Hills region. In addition, comparisons of enzymes in the detoxification system will be discussed. Discussion will also cover how the results of this paper help explain the differences seen in the impact of L. lineolaris on cotton between these two regions and how landscape differences between the regions may have hastened insecticide resistance in the Delta region.
