The tarnished plant bug, Lygus lineolaris (Palisot de Beauvois), is a highly polyphagous mirid that damages economically important plants across much of the new world including vegetables, fruits, nuts, nursery stock, and fiber. An updated list of host plants was compiled from the literature, greatly increasing the number of host plant records. The distribution of L. lineolaris has been recorded from Alaska, east to Newfoundland, and south to Guatemala; current literature extends that range into South America.
