The potential for adventitious presence (AP) of GMO traits in publicly developed cotton germplasm is significant.  Despite a need for formal trait testing, the majority of public breeders have relied solely upon traditional breeding practices such as field isolation and cleaning of equipment for the prevention of AP.  Presentation will propose a public breeder community wide approach of trait testing to minimize AP in breeding programs as well as the cotton germplasm collection.
