It is the purpose of this project to quantify and validate the effect of a fiber length QTL on chromosome 25 that is believed to be the product of a G. barbadense introgression in the germplasm line, Sealand 883.  Currently associated with 8 tightly linked SSR markers, we have deployed the QTL within a couple of regionally adapted cultivars to test its effect in different genetic backgrounds and to further locate the region in which the causal gene lies.
