The Arkansas Boll Weevil Eradication Program originated in 1997 in the Southwest Zone of Arkansas. The program expanded to the Southeast Zone in 1999, the Central Zone in 2000, the Ridge Zone in 2001, and the Delta Zone in 2003. Each zone has experienced the diapause phase and the season-long phase, and now each zone continues in the maintenance phase. The state of Arkansas remains weevil free at this time. Primary goals in the Arkansas program are to maintain a weevil free environment while working toward a debt free program. These goals are being reached by adhering to a strict budget and continuing to reduce expenses while conducting an active trapping program that is in compliance with national minimum standards recommendations.
