The process of high speed roller ginning (HSRG) has been taken to the commercial level. Studies have been conducted that show that ginning efficiencies and economies with equipment modified for high speed roller ginning can be essentially equal to saw ginning. Lint processed through HSRG tends to be longer, have higher uniformity index, and less short fiber than the same cotton that has been saw ginned. Results from a study are reported wherein seed cotton from the same module has been high speed roller ginned and also saw ginned with different levels of lint cleaning. The quality of yarns spun from carded stock is compared with cottons from the same module that have been conventionally (saw) ginned and processed through combing.
