Populations of Palmer amaranth that survived several applications of glyphosate were reported in the High Plains of Texas in 2011. Initial greenhouse studies suggest that these populations express resistance to glyphosate. Weed management “systems” in Roundup Ready Flex cotton were evaluated with an emphasis on soil residual herbicides preplant, preplant incorporated, preemergence, early-postemergence, and/or postemergence-directed. Weed resistance management must be a priority for effective, profitable, and sustainable weed management in 2012 and beyond.
