In the development of a Sensor Based Nitrogen Rate Calculator (SBNRC) for Oklahoma two trial locations were utilized.  One location is in the arid hot south west Oklahoma Irrigation district and the other in more temperate and humid central portion of Oklahoma.  It quickly became evident that the difference in growth patterns resulted in the distinct development of two yield prediction models.  While an existing model that was created in another region can be used in the development of sensor based nitrogen recommendations this work highlights the need for strictly regionally specific models if the technology is to be implemented in production systems.  This presentation will discuss the developmental process of the SBNRC and explanation for separate models based on difference in growth patterns.
