This study was initiated to identify potential alternative candidate herbicides besides 2,4-D for cotton stalk destruction, which has become the grower standard following the adoption of Rounup Ready Techonology.  As industry develops 2,4-D and other herbicide resistant cotton technology, it will be imperative that alternative chemical herbicides be identified to aid in cotton stalk destruction following harvest, especially for much of Texas where harvest can began in July and where there is no guarantee that temperatures will fall to a low enough level in the fall/winter to kill the cotton.
