A bank of stationary thermopile sensors are positioned in critical locations to measure the "Remote OBJECT" temperatures.  A rise in temperature alerts the ginner.  It can optionally shut down the gin machinery.  In a roller gin stand the sensors monitor the roller temperature for the purpose of reducing damage to overheated rollers.  In a saw gin stand, the sensors detect hot spots for the purpose of reducing damage to saws and lint. Temperature profiles across the roting rollers help identify miss-adjustment of the equipment.
