The Mehlich III soil test has recently been implemented in Louisiana in place of an array of alternative test procedures. In the case of soil P, the test as currently interpreted tends to indicate unexpectedly low soil P status, especially on Commerce silt loam. In response to this observation, a statewide effort is underway to calibrate the Mehlich III soil test to crop yield responses. This presentation focuses on two years of the relationship of Mehlich III soil P to cotton yields on Commerce silt loam near Saint Joseph, LA.
