Previous literature (Bourland) has shown a strong correlation between seed weight and seed volume.  Another study (Hodson) has shown a relationship between seed volume and seed surface area.  Therefore, a correlation between seed weight and seed surface area may exist.  In 2007, an 8x8 diallel analysis was conducted at Rohwer and Keiser Arkansas to investigate the relationship of seed surface area estimation to various yield components.  Following harvest, seeds were flame delinted and seed surface area was estimated with the Hodson method and again with WinSeedle software.  The objectives of this study address methods of seed surface estimation, possible relationships between flame and acid delinting, possible correlation between seed weight and seed surface area, and the relationship of seed surface estimation to certain yield components.
