The Widestrike technology was developed by Dow Agrosciences for insect resistance in cotton.  In the development of this technology, a glufosinate tolerance gene was used as a selectable marker. Cotton varieties with the Widestrike trait have been stacked with Roundup Ready and Roundup Ready Flex traits.  Widestrike cotton was not bred for glufosinate tolerance; therefore, this research examined tolerance to glufosinate, with respect to cotton injury and lint yield.  This research also investigated the effects of glyphosate and glufosinate on weed control by using Widestrike Roundup Ready Flex cotton as a model system in anticipation of Liberty Link varieties stacked with glyphosate resistance soon becoming available.
