The Genetics of Cotton Fiber Initiation

Inheritance studies were performed on three fiberless cotton lines, i.e., SL1-7-1, MD17 and XZ142w. These fiberless lines were crossed: first with each other; second with two lines carrying the two separate fuzzless seed alleles; and third, with two normal lines. The three fiberless models include the interaction of two or three loci. This information is valuable for molecular mapping and understanding the genetic complexity of fiber initiation.
