A new method for introducing round modules into the ginning process is currently undergoing tests by Cherokee Fabrication Company, Inc of Salem, Alabama.  The patent-pending device has shown promising initial results as tested at the factory in August 2008, and is expected to provide a simple and economical solution for even the highest capacity gins.  The device is currently being installed on an existing module feeder at a commercial gin which will process a large number of round modules from the 2008 season crop.  Cherokee refers to this device as the “Round-Up Module Unwrapper”, and plans to offer multiple configurations to accommodate different module feeders and wrap condition requirements.

Testing will be performed to determine if the actual capacities and manpower requirements match the design criteria, and if the system will meet the needs of the test facility.  The resulting data from this testing will be compiled for presentation in the proposed paper.  Photographs of the device and control panel will be included, as well as a schematic demonstrating the basic concepts employed.  Field notes and observations will also be presented.
