The Importance of Fiber and Yarn Quality in Breeding Programs

The purpose of this selection study is to compare the use two selection methods, one using HVI data only and one using HVI plus AFIS data.  The study began with fifteen intraspecific F₂ populations that have undergone a series of selections through the F₄ generation.  The final goal of the study is to compare the spinning performance of varieties chosen with each selection method.  Fiber data, preliminary spinning data, and progress of the two selection methods will be discussed.
