Traditionally, disposable wound care products such as sponge dressings, laporatomy sponge and operating room (OR) towels are made with either woven gauze or synthetic nonwovens. However, it is generally recognized that there are many shortcomings in the properties for the gauze and the synthetic nonwovens fabrics. The ideal fabric for making the wound care products should combine the natural cotton feel of the gauze and the favorable characteristics of the synthetic nonwoven material. The desire for such a material has prompted Winner Medical to develop and subsequently launch the PurCottonT nonwoven cotton fabrics made using a patented spunlace process in the last year. With the use of the patented process, the PurCottonT nonwoven fabrics are much more price competitive when compared with other nonwoven cotton fabrics available in the market today. Our Presentation will describe and compare the properties of the cotton nonwoven fabrics, as well as wound care products made with PurCotton T, with those for the gauze and synthetic nonwovens.
