Jose L. Martinez-Carrillo, INIFAP, Norman E. Borlaug Km. 12, Cd. Obregon, Sonora, 85000, Mexico and Nicolas Diaz-Lopez, Monsanto, Bosque de Durazno No, 61 3er Piso, Fracc. Bosque de las Lomas, 11700, Mexico, D. F., Mexico. D. F., ME 11700, Mexico.

Transgenic Bacillus thuringiensis Cotton has been planted in México since 1996, the variety used contains the Cry1Ac toxin, and it has given good control of certain lepidopterous insect pests such as the tobacco budworm (H.virescens). Monsanto is trying to introduce BT cotton with both Cry1Ac and Cry2Ab toxins to control a broad spectrum of lepidopterous insect pests. Neonate tobacco budworm larvae, from the Yaqui, valley in Sonora, Mexico, were exposed to different concentrations of this toxin. Results will be presented in this meeting.
