Energy is a significant input in cotton production in the Texas High Plains region. The use of energy in crop production can be measured as direct, indirect and embedded energy. Direct energy is represented by the fuel used to power equipment and irrigation systems. Indirect energy is represented by the energy to produce inputs such as fertilizer and pesticides. Embedded energy is represented by the energy used to manufacture capital assets used on the farm such as the energy to manufacture equipment. This study analyzed the energy used in cotton production on the sites in the Texas Alliance for Water Conservation project.
