Small plot, replicated variety trials were conducted at six locations. Soil was sampled for Verticillium dahliae and was confirmed at moderate to high levels at all sites. Disease developed at high levels in two sites, and only at moderate levels (< 25% incidence by 1 September) at three sites, and was low (< 10% incidence by 1 September) at one site. At both sites with high disease incidence, FiberMax (FM) 1880B2F, FM 1840B2F, DeltaPine 164B2F, and AFD 5065B2F had consistently among the lowest incidences of wilt ratings. At the three sites with only moderate pressure by early September, additional varieties with consistently low incidences of wilt were: PayMaster (PM) 2326RR, Stoneville 4427B2F, PM 2140B2F, and AFD 5064F.
