The COTMAN decision support system can be profitable in making in-season decisions about management actions. However, obtaining the greatest value from COTMAN requires that the plant observations be taken at appropriate locations within the field. If yield maps are available, the maps can be to select those regions of the field that have average conditions. Making observations at field average locations has been shown to improve the prediction of whole field conditions.
