Three of the machines that were used by the former USDA AMS facility in Clemson SC, have been reassessed and renovated using existing parts, in order to provide a system that is versatile in the range of yarns and natural fibers that it can process satisfactorily. Simple modifications were made at the card to improve doffing, and at the drawframe to simplify operation. More extensive work was performed on the spinning frame to demonstrate the versatility of the machine, not only in the range of yarn numbers that could be spun at acceptable twist levels, but also the size of sliver that could be used as feedstock.
