In some cotton growing regions high micronaire has been a problem. Consideration of variety trial information from Winnsboro,LA can assist breeders and producers in the identification of types of varieties that have the potential to be discounted on micronaire, Lower micronaire varieties are characterized by small perimeter, long fiber or reduced cell wall thickness. Variety trial information from the National Cotton Variety Trials in SC,MS,LA and TX was used to compare perimeter, fineness, micronaire, fiber strength and yarn strength and tenacity. In some cases varieties with the same perimeter, fineness, and micronaire values have different fiber strength values.Although the fiber strength values are different the yarn properties are the same.
