Some have suggested seed companies have emphasized transgenic traits over germplasm improvement. This paper will review the advancements made for conventional and transgenic trait containing cultivars. Special notice will be given to cultivars popular in 2004 and 2005 contrasted against those most popular in 1999 and 2000.
