Effects of Early Foliar Applied Nutrient on Initial Fruit Retention Across Six Varieties of Irrigated Cotton in Southwest Kansas

Gary K. Shafer, Phoenix Technologies, 4225 Wimbledon Dr., Lawrence, KS 66047

A replicated study to determine the effects of early season foliar nutrition upon vegetative growth habits, initial fruit set and retention, final yield and lint quality across six varieties in irrigated cotton. In addition, comparisons will also be conducted to observe/monitor maturity across two different soil types, one of which traditionally produces excess vegetation with late maturing cotton, and the other short vegetation with earlier maturity. It is believed that a reduction of growth retardant (Pix) is possible where early fruit set is achieved. Varieties include two established varieties in south-central Kansas, PM 2280 BG/RR and DP 444 BG/RR; as well as four new flex varieties, Beltwide 3255 B2F, NexGen 3273 B2RF, PM 2140 B2RF and DP 113 B2RF.
