The Asiatic cotton collection now contains many accessions of which 2/3 originated from India and many of these are not distinguishable morphologically. Ten accessions each of Gossypium herbaceum and G. arboreum were selected from the original germplasm collection (pre-Indian entries) as representative of geographgic areas of origin and used as a core set of accessions to identify SSR markers that were polymorphic among the species accessions. The molecular polymorphism among the accessions will be reported, as well as a dendrogram that demonstrates the relatedness among these and other assessions of the Asiatic cottons.
