Development of Inter-simple Sequence Repeat (ISSR) Markers for Bollworm, Helicoverpa zea

Torey Looft, O. P. Perera, and Carlos Blanco. USDA, USDA-ARS, SIMRU, P. O Box 346, Stoneville, MS 38732

Inter-simple sequence repeats are dominant genetic markers suitable for population genetic as well as genetic mapping studies. One hundred ISSR primers were screened to identify a set of 12 ISSR primers producing consistent banding patterns in bollworm, Helicoverpa zea. Moths from Alabama, Lousiana, Mississippi, and Texas were analyzed to evaluate the suitability of these markers in population genetic studies of bollworm.
